Focus on Web Design (Page 154)

I visited my.sinclair.edu. I liked the site because I visit it everyday for my online classes so I always notice it and I like to go through the site and see what I can find. I think the purpose of the site is to not only give students and instructors a way to communicate and know what classes they are taking, but also provide information from classes so that you can work at home. The intended audience is obviously Sinclair students and instructors, but future students and anyone interested in knowing about sinclair can go to the site. The site does reach students and instructors as well as other prospective students wanting to go to Sinclair. Most instructors use the website more than class so a lot more students are going on the site and online classes rely heavily on the site. The site was very useful because I like to have things structured and being able to find information is very important and I get that on this site. The background was mostly white with the sections on the homepage being red at the top and gray background with black and darker gray text. The top of the page has about a one inch red border. Almost all the text on the page is black. The logo on the page is the Sinclair portal banner at the top of the page. The navigation buttons to Web Advisor, your sinclair mailbox, and links have a gray background with white bolded text. I think the colors made the site contrasted nicely while still making the site look professional. The colors were easy to read.

Web Research Assignment (Page 21)

I picked the research topic of World Organization of Webmasters (WOW). Here are the findings I came up with...

a) How can you join WOW? What does it cost to join?

---You can join by filling out an application with all the necessary data to WOW at 9580 Oak Avenue, Pkwy Suite 7-177 in Folsom, CA 95630.

---It costs a student $49 to join, a government or educational person $69, an individual $89, or there is special pricing for corporate and to set up education alliences.

b) List one of the events that WOW participates in. Would you like to attend this event? Why or why not?

---WOW participates in the session at the Southwest (SXSW) Interactive Festival in Austin, TX. This event is from March 13 through March 17, 2009. The session is called “No Web Professional Left Behind: Educating the Next Generation.” The session is designed to prepare students for the real world in web development. I would not like to attend this event because I am not looking to go into web development and the event is too far away.

c) List three ways that WOW can help you in your future career as a Web developer.

---Prepares me for the real world and what it takes to become a web developer.
---Provide a chance to get a job through the corporate members.
---Provide training to get more information about web development.
---Provide a web professional certification program.

Hello. I have to admit, I am not used to this whole blog experience, but I am a fast learner so I should learn it quick. I am taking this class because it is one of my requirements for my degree in Business Information Systems, but I also wanted to learn more about xHTML. I am looking forward to meeting everyone. Thanks for visiting my blog!
